We are looking for you!
The Invictus Games are coming to Düsseldorf – apply by 31 October 2022 and be there as a volunteer.
Where would the Invictus Games be without their many volunteers? Just like the competitors, Family & Friends and VIPs, they are part of the Invictus Games – and they are crucial to the success of the Games.
The volunteers give the Invictus Games a face: They welcome all guests and competitors on site. The volunteers help people find their way around the event site and the host city. And they accompany the teams during the Games, whether in shuttle buses, in the catering team or in the competitions.
Starting signal for the application phase
The volunteers have left a lasting impression on the German Invictus Games team in The Hague: ‘We are still delighted by the warmth and support of the volunteers in The Hague,’ say Major Alexander Schneider and Ms Anuscheh Schmitz of the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 project team, who are responsible for volunteering. ‘We are all the happier now to give the starting signal for the volunteer application period for the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023,’ they announce.
Who we are looking for
The Invictus Games are an inclusive sporting event. That is why we are explicitly looking for people of all ages and also people with impairments as volunteers. If you are over 18 years old, you can apply between 1 July and 31 October 2022 via the registration portal. Volunteers will not be selected until after the end of the application phase.
Planning for the onboarding of volunteers is already in full swing, according to the Volunteering Team: ‘In January 2023, we will send out acceptance notifications or inform applicants that they are on the waiting list. If too many volunteers apply, we may unfortunately also have to turn some people down.’ In August 2023, the decision of who is assigned to which area of responsibility should be made. Preparatory training and kick-off events are planned for early September 2023, shortly before the Games. Until the start of the Games and during the Games, we will keep all volunteers informed via e-mails, the website and an app that will be available then.

A variety of tasks
Whether it’s ticketing, technology, childcare or in the medical area, helping hands are needed everywhere. You can find a complete description of all areas of assignment and requirement profiles here.
Tasks will be assigned as follows: You can indicate special skills and three preferred areas of work when you apply. If possible, we will then assign you accordingly. If that does not work, you will be given another exciting task. Regardless of the area of assignment, volunteers are accredited for the entire Games, and can also attend the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. You will of course be provided with meals during your assignment, and we will issue you with a volunteer certificate after your assignment.
We will prepare you for your assignment
As a volunteer, you will not just be thrown in at the deep end. The project team will prepare you well for the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023. ‘We are planning two training sessions at the beginning of September, in German and in English. They are planned as a one-day event with on-site presence in Düsseldorf. This way, the teams can get to know each other personally, and we can introduce the volunteers to the event location directly on site and brief them on their area of responsibility,’ says the Volunteering Team, explaining the training process.
In various online modules, you will be taught some of the theoretical parts of the training. ‘The volunteers learn how to respond to the needs of all participants with and without impairments, and thus make them feel welcome – in line with the motto A Home for Respect.’ say those responsible. You will also learn everything important about the Invictus Games, their history, and the goals and impact of the Games. And, of course, everything about the sports and sports venues.
We are looking forward to meeting you!
