The Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst, hosted a reception at the NRW State Representation in Berlin on 18 April 2023. High-ranking representatives from politics and society accepted the invitation for an emotional evening with the competitors of Team Germany and Federal Minister of Defence, Boris Pistorius.
On Tuesday evening, an unforgettable reception took place at the NRW State Representation in Berlin, taking the attending audience from politics and society, as well as the competitors for the Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023 on an emotional journey. Numerous high-ranking guests were present, including representatives from politics, the German Bundestag and the Federal Government.
The competitors were the focus of the evening. At noon, Defence Minister Pistorius had already received Team Germany from The Hague 2022 in the Bendlerblock and presented them with an award. The Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst, now opened the evening in front of an enthusiastic audience. In his speech, he emphasised the importance of these Games for the whole of German society and paid tribute to the courage and achievements of the competitors. Together with the Federal Minister of Defence, Boris Pistorius, he paid tribute to their determination and stamina to take part in the Games despite severe physical and mental injuries.

A talk round with competitors from Team Germany for the Invictus Games, moderated by Parliamentary State Secretary Siemtje Möller, gave the audience an insight into their stories and challenges. It was a poignant moment as they shared their experiences and thoughts.

Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of the artist Mazibora and his new song “Invictus”, which was written especially for the Games. The song was enthusiastically received by the audience and moved some to tears.
We would like to thank the State of NRW and the Minister President Hendrik Wüst for hosting us at the State Representation. The evening was a great success and inspired and excited us all. There are just under 6 months until the Games and this evening has made us even more excited to cheer on the competitors in Düsseldorf and welcome 22 nations from all continents of the world to #aHomeForRespect.
