Düsseldorf, 15 August 2022 – Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will come to the state capital on 6 September 2022, one year before the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023. They will meet local officials, potential competitors ahead of selection later this year, and their friends and family.

“We are honoured to welcome Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to mark one year to go until INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023. Our aim is to create “A Home for Respect” for those servicewomen and men who have given so much in service to their countries, including for the people of the Federal Republic of Germany and their respective nations.” Says Brigadier General Alfred Marstaller, CEO of the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023.

“We have received the great news that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke of Sussex and Duchess of Sussex are visiting us this September. We are delighted to present the host city and the Invictus Games Park at the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA to the Patron of the Invictus Games Foundation for next year’s Games,” says Dr. Stephan Keller, Lord Mayor of the state capital Düsseldorf.

The Invictus Games will take place in Germany for the first time from 9 to 16 September 2023. More than 500 wounded, injured and sick Service personnel and veterans from 21 nations will compete against each other in a friendly competition across ten sports. The Games are held internationally every two years at different locations, with Vancouver and Whistler, Canada confirmed as the hosts for 2025.

What counts more than medals at the Invictus Games is to celebrate each competitor’s personal journey and struggle. The fact that the last one to finish gets the biggest applause is not a platitude at the Invictus Games, but a lived tradition that makes for unforgettable emotional moments. The INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 will be held under the motto “A HOME FOR RESPECT.” and will be jointly hosted by the German Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) and the City of Düsseldorf. This is also unique in the history of the Invictus Games.

Initiated in 2014 by Harry, Duke of Sussex, the Invictus Games will be held in Germany for the first time in 2023. The project, supported by the German Armed Forces together with the City of Düsseldorf, is intended to be a unique celebration of optimism and inspiration. One of the main goals of this international sports competition is to give soldiers (both active and former) who have been wounded, injured or have fallen ill in body and soul greater visibility and recognition in society and to support them on their way to rehabilitation. Germany expects about 500 competitors from more than 20 countries. They will be accompanied by about 1,000 “Families & Friends”. The event will take place in Düsseldorf under the motto A HOME FOR RESPECT.
