Making the invisible visible through art
The Invictus Games is first and foremost a sports event. In addition to that, the aim is to initiate an exchange between society and its servicemen and women and one of the ways of doing so is through arts and culture.
Düsseldorf, 23.05.2023 With that in mind, from 22. May 2023 to 26. May 2023, artist Gregor Wosik will paint his Invictus Games themed artwork on the Johannes-Rau-Platz, 40213 Düsseldorf. Depending on the weather conditions, the work of art will be completed on 26. May 2023. Citizens will have the opportunity to take photos of themselves as part of the artwork from 26. May 2023 to 5. June 2023.
Gregor Wosik: ‘The servicemen and women publicly defend our security and freedom around the world. What we do not always see, however, are their injuries, wounds and illnesses. Art can be a form of expression to make the invisible and incomprehensible visible. With my artwork, I would like to contribute to drawing attention to the fate of the competitors.’
Dr. Birgit Oldopp, Head of Legacy in the project team for the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 presented by Boeing: ‘The artistic processing of war and trauma on the one hand and of the transition to peace on the other is a central theme in art. We, the project team, would like to open up different approaches to the Invictus Games for the citizens, and we hope that this work of art not only depicts a bridge, but also becomes one.’
The artist Gregor Wosik
Gregor Wosik has been painting street art for more than twenty years. His 3D pictures are particularly impressive, which he has already created on streets and squares in Germany, Europe and the USA, to the delight of passers-by. He himself was a professional footballer in Poland, and knows about the power of sport. Creating a work of art for the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 presented by Boeing is a project very close to his heart.
