Swimming

Swimming is a sport open to competitors with almost any type of impairment. The special physical properties of water enable the competitors to participate in the swimming competitions without the need for prostheses or other technical aids. The competitors are functionally classified, which means that they are grouped into classes that take into account their individual level of functional ability and skill, with the aim of creating fair competition conditions for all.

Adaptive swimming has already been part of the Invictus Games since 2014. Swimmers can compete individually in 50-m and 100-m freestyle races, as well as in 50-m backstroke and 50-m breaststroke events. In addition, there is a 4 × 50-m freestyle relay.
