WE ARE INVICTUS!
In 2023, the German team for the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 will consist of 37 people, 30 men and seven women. In addition, there are dedicated trainers, support staff and psychologists
Team Germany 2023, coaches and support staff are looking forward to fair games and exciting, friendly competitions in Düsseldorf.
Team Germany: we’re here for it as long as it benefits recovery
The German competitors will compete in almost all sports disciplines of this year’s games. Only the participation in the sports bench press and wheelchair rugby will be renounced by the German team, as it is not conducive to the health of the competitors from a therapeutic point of view.

Athletics: 16 people
Swimming: 21 persons
Archery: 10 persons
Cycling: 13 persons
Rowing: 17 persons
Table tennis: 18 persons
Wheelchair basketball: 10 persons + Team Netherlands
Sitting volleyball: 14 persons
From the Sports Therapy Group to Team Germany
The Bundeswehr traditionally acquires its competitors for the Invictus Games from the Sports Therapy at the Bundeswehr Sports School in Warendorf group. It is part of a holistic, individually tailored rehabilitation concept that includes sports therapy as well as psychological support. The goal of the sports therapy group is not participation in the Invictus Games, but a return to service and a self-determined everyday life. That is why the competitors are not primarily concerned with sporting best performances and medals, but with the event itself: For them, participation in the Invictus Games is another big step on their individual path to rehabilitation.
The active and former soldiers of the German team have suffered mental or physical injuries during deployment or in accidents. Almost all of them suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.
The team captain of the German 2023 team is Kapitänleutnant Jörg.

The fact that some of us are now getting the chance to be part of INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 is indescribable. We are all highly motivated. We want to share our will to live and our confidence with the teams of the other nations, the entire Invictus community and all the other spectators – and thus perhaps encourage one or the other to face her or his destiny. We are especially happy that our Family & Friends will be by our side and experience this unique event together with us.”
