With its support, the global security and aerospace company reaffirms its long-standing partnership with the Invictus Games
Düsseldorf, 07.06.2023 – Lockheed Martin has been announced as Official Supporter of the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 presented by Boeing. The company supports the sixth Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany as a sign of respect towards international wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans.
As a Partner of the Invictus Games Toronto 2017, Sydney 2018 and The Hague 2020, Lockheed Martin is working to continue its steadfast support for those who serve, or served, in the armed forces.
“Supporting military veterans and servicemen and women is an integral part of our core values”, said Jonathan Hoyle, Chief Executive Europe at Lockheed Martin. “In 2022, 30% of our hires were veterans, and currently, one in five employees across our global workforce has served in uniform. It is a privilege to join forces with the Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023 and to share in the spirit of the Games.”
The Invictus Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding of and respect for those who serve their country, and for their Family & Friends. Lockheed Martin is embracing the opportunity to support the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 presented by Boeing as a sign of commitment to the well-being of the global military community. Lockheed Martin is also proud to support five of the national teams, among them Italy and Romania, that will be participating in Düsseldorf.
Brigadier General Alfred Marstaller, Project Director of the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 presented by Boeing, says: “We are delighted that Lockheed Martin, a trusted strategic partner of the German Armed Forces for many years, is now supporting the Games. The Invictus Games offer a unique opportunity to give the competitors and their families and friends the recognition and appreciation they deserve. An international sports event like this can only be successful with the support of strong partners like Lockheed Martin.”
From 9 to 16 September, the sixth Invictus Games will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany for the first time. More than 500 wounded, injured and sick active and former servicemen and women from 22 nations will compete in ten sports in a friendly way. Sport gives them strength for their rehabilitation. What counts is not elite performance, but people, team spirit and the will to live. Their sporting achievements show their progress in their recovery and their will to find their way back into life after serious injuries or illnesses. Together with their Family & Friends, the competitors are celebrated for fighting their way back into life despite major challenges, and for creating new prospects. They shall experience the Games as a visible sign of appreciation and recognition for their courage to face life.
